Drain the Swamp

Had an interesting realization after reading a New York Times article on Oct. 10, 2020 about whether or not Trump drained the swamp.  Here's link to article although reading it is optional.

So Trump doesn't wear a mask because he says it's not for him. He adds that it limits our freedom of choice. He says there is no reason to fear the virus. That it's like the flu. That most people get over it in a few days. Wearing the mask in the White House shows disloyalty so nobody used to wear masks - until now. 

So for months I've wondered why does he have this attitude since this virus can be deadly? After reading the NYT article now I know.

Here it is. There are thousands of businesses in the US & around the world that need influence with the US government in order to further their business interest & Trump can make that happen. 

Here is how that's done. Trump has many properties around the world. Businesses who want to have  influence book meeting and conferences at these properties for hundreds of thousands of dollars - sometimes close to a million. This is revenue for Trump. He frequently goes to these properties & meets with these business people who ask for favors.

These conferences mean that hundreds of people congregate. So if Trump says be safe don't congregate, he hurts his business and wearing a mask is promoting the fear of the virus. So he he downplays it. Nothing to fear. If people don't hold conferences, he looses business & what do you know he is more interested in his business that people's safety.
